Creativity versus Innovation

Over the weekend I took I beautiful wife Megan to the movies.  We wanted to see an older movie, something that had been out for over a month, and the only place it was playing was CineBistro, a new theatre over by Oglethorpe University, for you Atlantans.

The company is a great example of the book store example Chris Hanks and I use all the time.  Starting a new book store is not creative, lots of those out there.  But, how can you make a book store experience better, so that shopping there is preferable to other book stores?

CineBistro has done just that.  Every aspect of this theater experience was better than the normal AMC Multiplex.

First, the building was new, nice, with the red velvet rope lines to greet you.  Parking was plentiful and they offered valet parking.  When you purchased tickets, they allow you to select assigned seats, and then they ask you to wait in the bar!  A full bar with good drinks, real drinks.  I had a Long Island Tea.  After about 5 minutes, they called our movie.  As you entered the theater, a waiter was displaying the nightly dinner specials, which looked amazing.  As you approach the seats, someone new greets you and escorts you to your seats, big, big leather seats with big armrests.  Our order was taken, popcorn shrimp and a seafood dip, and soon arrived.  Delicious.  Cloth napkins, rolled silverware.  I was the manager check on the room 3 times.   And a chocolate mint as we left the theater.  Every aspect was perfect.  The movie, What to Expect When You Are Expecting, was great.  It’s average critics score was a 42, but I loved it.  Because I like teary movies or because the experience was just so much better?

Oh, and the price? No idea.  Don’t care.  Sure it was fair, they deserve to charge more and I know where I am seeing all my movies from now on.  Innovation made this a better experience and won my business.
